Streamlining the Moving Process: Tips

2 Types Of Storage Solutions Provided By Moving Companies

When relocating to a new house or office space, there comes a time when you might need to store away some of your items. For instance, if you are moving into a smaller space, there's a chance all your belongings may not fit in the new place. As a result, you may have to store some of your items away before deciding what to do with them.

Hence, most moving companies also offer storage solutions for their clients. However, there are two storage solutions you can opt for when moving. Thus, here are the two storage solutions provided by moving companies.

1. Residential Storage Units

Residential storage units are portable storage containers. The portable containers come in different sizes, and based on your preference, they can have climate control systems or not. One significant advantage of residential storage units is that you can use them for transportation and storage.

For instance, you can rent a residential storage unit, pack all your belongings, and have the unit delivered to your new residence. Once at the new home, you can set the portable storage container anywhere on the property for easy access.

Hence, residential storage units make loading and retrieving items easier because the container is on your property. However, you should note that rental fees for a portable storage unit depend on how long you need to keep it. Typically, the longer the storage unit remains on your premises, the more the rental fees accumulate.

2. Self-storage Units

Unlike portable storage units, self-storage units are not mobile. Instead, they are available at self-storage facilities owned or operated by a moving company. Hence, you travel to the self-storage facility whenever you want to store or retrieve your belongings.

Hence, self-storage units are an ideal substitute when getting a residential storage unit is not an option. For instance, if you live in a metropolitan area, you may not have access to enough space to place a portable storage unit on your property. Furthermore, you may have to apply for a permit to place the storage container on your property.

As a result, people in metropolitan areas often opt for self-storage units instead of residential storage units. Nonetheless, most self-storage facilities exist on the outskirts of the central business district. Hence, when you opt for a self-storage unit, expect to incur transportation costs when delivering or retrieving your items.

Nonetheless, self-storage facilities provide better security for your items because they have 24/7 security. Furthermore, renting a self-storage unit for an extended period is often much cheaper than renting a portable storage unit.
